El presente artículo se centra en el interés de la lectura de obras hispanoamericanas para escolares y las dificultades de comprensión de las mismas tomando como ejemplo la novela 9 mm Parabelum del ecuatoriano Eduardo Noriega. A través de pruebas de comprensión lectora, se compara la comprensión del léxico y de datos culturales entre lectores no nativos y nativos de la variedad peninsular. El análisis permite extraer conclusiones sobre el tipo de anotación necesaria y la explotación didáctica de la novela.
