Abstract

In this interview, conducted as part of a project on the history of popular Latin American cinema, film director Arturo Ripstein explains what he considers popular cinema and what is one of the vices most exploited by the industry to create commercial films: cheesiness. He also tells which was one of his most censored films (La viuda negra) and which was one of the most talked about scenes in a film (El lugar sin límites). He also gives his opinion of the creators who he considers to have been his creative brood (Jaime Humberto Hermosillo, Paul Leduc, Felipe Cazals, Jorge Fons).
