The concept and expression linguistic mediation (LM) has spread in the last decade in some European countries, particularly in the academic fields of Spain and Italy, where the use of LM and its derivations is characterized by a high level of lexical imprecision and interpretative confusion, which leads to several drawbacks. This paper offers a summary of the Spanish and Italian situation with the aim of showing analogies and differences in order to finally reach a bottom line and some operative proposals.
