En los tiempos actuales hay quien pone en duda el futuro de los traductores debido a que su trabajo parece estar perdiendo valor e incluso llegando a ser sustituido por herramientas de traducción automática, cada vez más completas y precisas. Alessandro Ghignoli, con La traducción humanística, aporta diferentes argumentos en contra de este pensamiento, subrayando la importancia de la figura del traductor cuando se trata de traducir literatura, actividad entendida como un complejo proceso de comunicación tanto lingu?ística como cultural.
