Tomamos prestadas algunas afirmaciones que aparecen contenidas en el prólogo de esta obra, firmado por Guillermo Rojo (Real Academia Española), para comenzar esta reseña: “El lingüista del siglo XXI pues, va a necesitar manejar el mismo conjunto de conocimientos que tenían los del siglo XX, pero se le va a exigir, además, que pueda formularlos de otro modo y aplicarlos a objetivos distintos. A ello contribuirá de manera decisiva, sin duda, el libro escrito por la profesora Julia Lavid” (cf. op. cit., p. 23).
