Call For Papers nº 28-2024: Photography, historical methods, and analysis: challenges and new paradigms
In recent decades, several new proposals regarding methodologies for working with the history of photography, and how it is used by teachers and researchers, have revealed new specialists on this subject. Methodology is one of the aspects within the field of history that needs continual reflection and renewal to stoke debate and clarify ideas and tools linked to the study, analysis, and the historical interpretation of images. This includes ways to favor their inclusion in contemporary and international discourses on the history of photography. We are currently witnessing a passing of the torch in this field and the transformation of paradigms which makes it relevant to renew the discussion on historiography and methodology while questioning the obsolescence of certain systems of interpretation and paying careful attention to other areas of focus. For example, this can include the perspective of gender and historical memory or new formats and areas of study such as the photobook, the digital revolution, and new post-photography discourses that help to launch our discipline into the future.
