The Comparative study of the translation support line of the Fondo Nacional de Fomento del Libro y la Lectura in the decade 2013-2022.
The contribution of translation to intercultural dialogue

In 2020, a study was published describing the 90 translation projects financed by the Fondo Nacional de Fomento del Libro y la Lectura in the five-year period 2013-2017, which allowed us to reflect on the contribution of this state support to the institutionalization of the discipline and the practice of translation in Chile. To provide continuity to that study, the aim of this research is to describe and compare those first results with the data obtained in the second five-year period 2018-2022 and thus obtain aggregate data for the decade 2013-2022. The contrasting results include an exponential increase in the number and amounts allocated to projects, an incipient trend towards greater participation of applicants from the northern and southern regions of the country, and stability in the high frequency of translations from English, French, and German into Spanish, and of literary genres such as poetry, novels, and essays. The ultimate purpose is to foster reflection on the contribution of translation to intercultural dialogue in our country.
