The printed letter and the sea. The recovery of the teacher Benaiges' promise

The story of the teacher Antoni Benaiges, repressed in the first days of the military uprising against the Second Republic in 1936 was discovered by the photographer Sergi Bernal in 2010. Since then, multiple creations have been produced of the story The teacher who promised the sea in a sort of adaptations and narrative transfers ranging from photography to historical research, facsimiles, novels, biography, theater plays, film —documentary and fiction— graphic novels or music. In this paper we aim to analyze how the recovery of historical memory through cultural creation becomes relevant in the contemporary context.
