This study aims at grasping the significance of the arguments for God’s existence, concerning its possibility and the concept of God involved therein. Firstly, it deals with the context in which Kant elaborates the destruction of the proofs: a change of paradigm (II.1), within which the concept of God is conceived as the ideal of reason (II.2), along with the destruction of the traditional arguments (II.3). Hegel starts from Kant in his explanation and values Kant’s position and his scientific treatment of the problem, but his rejection falls short of the main scope, since Kant “remains within the representation of finite knowledge and cognition” (III.1). Hegel has a different concept of a “proof” of God, which is not a mere logical exercise (III.2), but an elevation of spirit to God in which both man and God are involved (III.3), so that there is an elevation from the finite being and a descent and acceptancy of this elevation by the Infinite being (III.4).
