CFP: Kantian Genealogy of Idealism

2025-10-24

Under the title ‘Kantian Genealogy of Idealism,’ Studia Hegeliana, the journal of the Spanish Society for Hegel Studies, is calling for a monograph to explore this topic in its next volume.

Many great thinkers were involved in the genesis of Idealism, but it is commonly accepted that Kant occupied a prominent place. However, it is often difficult to determine the extent to which Idealism depends on Kantian philosophy. Was his influence direct or indirect? Are all forms of Idealism forms of Kantianism? Is Idealism, rather, a reaction against Kant? Were the readings of the Idealists marked by third-party interpretations of Kant? Furthermore, Kant's influence on Idealism outside Germany, such as Italian Idealism or American Idealism, is rarely investigated. The same is true of Kant's influence on the scientists of his time, as there has still been insufficient study of how Kant's philosophy of science was received by the Idealists of his time or later. Thus, Kant's role in Idealism has been studied for years, but many fundamental questions remain unanswered.

Taking into account the ideas in the previous paragraph, volume 12, to be published in 2026, in Studia Hegeliana. Journal of the Spanish Society for Hegel Studies, we want to open a space for dialogue and research on Kant's influence on Idealism. As there is a relevant field for studies on Idealism that has not yet been properly examined with the thoroughness it deserves, Studia Hegeliana proposes a monograph to investigate the subject. We call on researchers who wish to share their ideas on the relationship between Kant and the birth of Idealism. Six types of research will be considered, although not exclusively:

  • Interpretations of Kant's texts that led to the birth of Idealism.
  • Kant's influence on German Idealism specifically.
  • Kant's influence on European Idealism or beyond Europe.
  • Different interpretations of the birth of Idealism.
  • Importance of Kant and Idealism in the philosophy of science in its context or subsequently.
  • Reception of Kant's philosophy in the Kantian era.

Thus, under the title ‘Kantian Genealogy of Idealism,’ Studia Hegeliana. Journal of the Spanish Society for Hegel Studies is pleased to open its call for contributions for volume 12 (monograph) of 2026, in any of the following formats:
