Abstract

The Museo Nazionale dell'Automobile Carlo Biscaretti da Ruffia in Turin bears witness to the importance of the car in Italy and even more so to its leading role in Turin.

To enhance the value of the building, it was decided to renovate the original 1960 construction, designed by Amedeo Albertini: work began in 2008 and was completed in 2011 with the official opening to the public in March, coinciding with the celebrations for the 150th anniversary of the Unification of Italy. The museum's space has increased from 11,000 square metres to around 19,000 square metres in the current structure, which can display almost 200 original cars of 85 different makes, ranging from 1769 to the present day.
