Abstract

This article details the importance of "Islario General" by Alonso de Santa Cruz as one of the most interesting Reinassance works about cartography and literary description of American territories under Spanish Empire in XVI century The manuscript text, illustrated with several drawing and coloured marine charts, shows knowledge of American geography according the author and cultural context of his time.
