Abstract

This paper stresses the psychological and spiritual components of two paintings from Rembrandt’s last stage, Syndics of the Clothmakers’ Guild and e Jewish Bride, both in Amsterdam Rijksmuseum, without relinquishing fundamental aspects of formal analysis. A special relevance has been granted to the conclusions derived from direct observation of both canvases at their museum location, without establishing a con ict with other critical judgments on the Dutch master.
