Las celebraciones públicas en Vélez-Málaga en la centuria ilustrada

Abstract

Our article goes over the documented public festivities in Vélez-Málaga during the 18th century. Thanks to the minutes of the town council we have been able lo analyse how this institution was involved in the organisation of the celebrations, both usual religious ceremonies and civil celebrations related to the Crown, and also the ceremonies of the different orders settled in the village. We must emphasise the monarchic commemorations, of great interest for the town authorities, because of their political performance and the underlying social message included in all of them.
