Abstract

For Art and Modern History historians, study oí funerary rites and obsequies is an fascinating subject oí investigation, specially when the protagonist oí them is someone so interesting and charming such as Emperor Charles I/V, who even was present in a requiem mass officiated for himself shortly befare bis own death. This article analyzes religious, social, political, artistic and cultural context around oí imperial obsequies celebrated in Yuste (Spain) and Brussels in 1558. The author sets against and compares sobriety and simplicity oí the first with spectacular and sumptuous scenography oí the second obsequies.
