Abstract

The author describes the principal characteristics of the phisical environment of Spitzbergen and its gradual alteration within the island. On this base the importance and the effects of both, natural impacts and human impacts, the latter caused by coal mining, on ecosistems, vegetation and its regeneration capacity is workes out.
