Perception and assessment of the landscape in the planning process. The example of the beaches in the metropolitan area of Lisbon.

The author presents some theoretical questions in their application to landscape perception studies. Their limitations are also considered, especially when applied to planning processes. The study is illustrated in the Lisbon city area and shows the scientific difficulties found in trying to grapple with the population´ s perception of their surrounding beaches.
