Starting from the conquest of the kingdom of Granada by the Catholic Monarchs, moslems were forced to choose between conversion to Catholicism or exile. With regard to the moorish people, those who choosed the baptism, it’s increased the intolerance to their religion, ancestral ways, their clothes, their diet… In the beginning we coud talk about a stage of assimilation, and during this moment it was pretended to eliminate the Semitic part of moorish people. But in a second stage, Catholics take a harder attitude and that they want is to eliminate the moorishpeople. Contemporary literature, for the most part, vindicates this minority group, although there is some author who is really opposed to this inclination.
