The importance of fishing in man´ s nutrition in modern times is reflected as much in the peak which tuna fishing reached in these centuries, as in the lawsuits which arose over the right to organise the fishing due to the wealth which it produced. The commercialization of tuna meant such a substantial income that the Royal Exchequeur, the nobility adn the Councils desired to take part in it. On studying the privileges enjoyed by the House of Medina Sidonia in the exploiting of the tuna fishing from a medieval times until the 18th century, a series of created interests are shown which came to have a series of repercussions in the municipal district of Tarifa, a fact which is analysed in the present work.
