Dionysus, Ariadna and the misery of Clauco

The study of the myth of the confrontation between Dionysus and Glaucus over Ariadne -one more episode in the unhappy love life of the last of these three- as well as a follow-up of the sources, throws light on the characterization process of both mythological figures and makes an interpretation possible which, adjusting to an ancient ritual nucleus, explains the deepest significance by means of a model in which marriage is manifested basically as a system of cultural integration. The state of being a protagonist of which Dionysus makes a show must not be understood thanks to the supported maritime afinity of the god, but rather through his capacity to preside over the transit.
