The frontiers of archival science

First the concept of archives as the subject of Archives scholarship and the main problems which this presents are analysed. The authors then wonder about the future of contemporary archives and the limiations of this science for covering the multiplicity of problems posed by the present-day documentary explosion and the necessary elimination of documents in order to make possible a better use of the archives as the prime source of History.
