This article is the first in a series which the authors are preparing on the main problems which the Archivist faces nowadays. The documents on the subject of Diplomacy and those which constitute the archives themselves are dealt with. The conclusion is reached, after extending the chronological, spacial and content limits of the former that studies on diplomacy should cover all the documents which form the archives.
