Carlos IV and America: the Royal Decree of October 5, 1796 and its consequences in the New World

After Spain declared war on England, in the Royal Charter of 5th October 1796, Royal Order on the 9th of that month and year, the Viceroys of America received orders from the Spanish Crown for them to inform their charges of the need to be prepared, in order to face a possible British attack, while also requesting that they report on the state of any adverse events.
