The expansion of bureaucracy in the town councils during the Modern Age is a process founded from the beginning in the generalized sale of positions by the Crown, and in an appropriation of them as if they were a patrimony. The subject of our paper will be the incidence of this expansion of bureaucracy in the Treasury of the city of Vélez-Málaga, in which expenses it can be easily seen the evident burden of this bureaucratic machine.
