The monarchy uses royal funerals as a means to reinforce the powerful image of the crown as an institution connected with the church. Protocol guiding royal proclamations and formal funerals displayed certain features of the social structure and institutional hierarchy in Málaga when the city, dismayed by the death of Queen Luisa Isabel of Orleans, widow of Luis I, participated in the homage paid to her in the moving funeral ceremony prepared by the civil and religious authorities.
