Although Seville and Madrid left their mark on Velázquez, the brilliant painter, we found during his life other important cities, apart from the Italian ones where he improved his art. In Malaga he stayed during almost two months before sailing for Italy. Seville lived its splendor during the 16th century, however in the middle of the next century and as result of the plague its population was reduced by half and the deep demographic fall affected its economy. On the other hand, Malaga though the general crisis in the 17th century lived certain times of growth because of the commerce with North European powers.
