Utilitas rei publicae: the Libertas in the Agrícola of Tácito

Agricola constitutes a political speech in response to the ideas of a group partial to Nerva and Trajano and, from the moderatio, opposed to the Flavian dinasty. In this context, the libertas belongs to the Senate and consists of freedom of speech. The concordia is the foundation of the Roman superiority towards conquered peoples. Julio Agricola is an example, like Nerva is, of how to do politics under tyrants with the service to the Roman state as the principal target.Downloads
