In this essay I reflect on the contact zones between art and memes. In addition to analyzing cases in which art adopts the memetic logic and aesthetics, the text covers some milestones in the history of Internet memes. Besides, I also presents a partial narrative of the exhibition #ElMemeEstáEnLaTrienal!, which I curated in 2015 as part of the 4th Bienal Poli/Gráfica de San Juan América Latina y el Caribe. Some of the topics discussed in light of that experience are the culture wars, digital activism and the technology gap.
