A conversation with Juan Martín Prada
Facing the Challenges of Artificial Intelligence in the Visual Arts

We interviewed Juan Martín Prada, an expert in art and digital culture, about his recent work 'Teoría del Arte y Cultura Digital' and his lecture on 'Visual Artistic Creation in the Face of Artificial Intelligence Challenges' (Granada, 4th October 2023). The latter was the inaugural lecture of the Master in Art Production and Research at the University of Granada.
The conversation discusses the ethical, philosophical, and cultural complexities that arise at the intersection of artificial intelligence and artistic creation in contemporary society. It explores the profound implications of AI on visual culture and artistic creation, including its impact on collective visual memory, historiography, and the new possibilities generated by mass participation due to the accessibility of AI in image making.
Finally, this article addresses the ethical and philosophical questions surrounding the presence of AI in artistic creation. It emphasizes the importance of education in these technologies and the need to reflect on their impact on society and individual subjectivity. The interview provides a comprehensive overview of the current dynamics between artificial intelligence and the artistic sphere, highlighting its influence on multiple aspects of contemporary visual culture
