Abstract

The expulsion of the moriscos (Moors of Spain forced to convert to Christianity) from the Iberian Peninsula generated a vast amount of documents, analyzed by historians from different
points of view. Those documents concerning the Andalusian territories are being studied in the last years, from sources barely examined, introducing new approaches for the knowledge of the
Moorish minority. During the first months of 1610 a census of the newly converted population living in the south of the peninsula was carried out. Although this census is essentially an economical document, it will be our starting point to study from a humanitarian and logistic point of view certain aspects of the boarding of thousands of people towards the definitive exile.
A series of references described in the files shows the tragedy of men and women forced to leave their homes for an uncertain exile.
