Abstract

The analysis of the resident population in the nucleus of the city of Málaga (within the limits of the city in the XVIII century) is the starting point of a reflection about the decay of the residential function. The loss of population is analysed, and with regards to abandonment, the model of population and family which remains is considered. The physical and social heterogeneity of this space and the different intensity with which the central areas experiment this abandonment and aquire the characteristics of a residual population are pointed out.
