Abstract

The high rates of tomato consumption together with the low climatic and edaphological demands of this crop and the elasticity in supply, which runs throughout the whole of the farming year, have brought about high production ratesm and the tomato has now become one of the major vegetable crops, both in surface area and in production levels, of all those grown along the eastern Andalusian coast, Almería being the second major producing area in Spain as well as one of the main expoters. The analysis of the characteristics and commercial problems such as sales network, commercial agents, and in particular its position in the international market, especially in EEC counttries, our main clients, are based on these facts presented in this study.
