Politics and morality in the Golden Age: The Memorial of Francisco Núñez Muley

The Memorial of the Morisco Francisco Núñez Muley fits in the religious culture of the Spain of the Golden Age period. In this Memorial we can find the particular reactions of a period in which the secularization process, which has already taken shape in the European countries dominated by Protestantism, slowly affects Catholicism. In Spain there is a wide reaction against it, mainly by Philip the Second, contrary to the idea of the Moriscos headed by Núñez Muley, who states that the customs and traditions of his people, forbidden by the King, are only cultural problems, not at all opposed to Catholicism.
