In the last thirty years of the 17th century silverwork from Córdoba became available throughtout Spain, due to the activity of the so-called “maestros feriantes” (travelling crasftsmen) who regularly sold their work around the country. This article analyzes the reasons behind the development of this trade and its consequences for the trade in silverwork in nearby areas: in some cases frictions developed between the silverwork producers in Córdoba and those in other nearby areas, such as Málaga.
