This paper focuses on the analysis of the interpretation of the first four sessions of the trial held at the National Court in November 2020 for the attacks that took place in Barcelona and Cambrils in August- 17th, 2017. The corpus of analysis has been extracted from the recordings published by the newspaper La Vanguardia, and the General Council of the Judiciary. The analysis of the corpus focuses on the interpretation’s quality and accuracy, as well as on its conformity with the professional standards proposed by APTIJ (Legal Translators and Interpreters Professional Association). The study concludes that, despite the adoption of the Organic Law 5/2015, and the experience accumulated over the past years in Arabic-Spanish court interpreting (Taysir Allouni case and the 11M terrorist attacks, among others), clear and well-defined regulations are needed to establish what a court interpreter shall and shall not do, and an appropriate and comprehensive specialized training is necessary as well before exercising the profession.
