Abstract

This work presents the possibility of the descriptio’s use in the classroom as a didactic resource in the teaching of the Latin language as well as the contents regarding the culture, mythology, history and literature. For this purpose, we propose activities that favors the learning of Latin and also the skills collected in the curriculum for ESO and Bachillerato. In this paper, we propose three activities, which have the description
as a central subject: the confection of a vocabulary, a game named Quis sum? and the practical stay with a group of 1º of Bachillerato. In addition, and with the purpose of being able to compare the results, the elaboration of a description was also conducted with 2º of Bachillerato students, who followed a diff erent learning method. While the students in 1º followed the Orberg method, the students in 2º of Bachillerato proceeded with a traditional one. Finally, at the end of every activity, an analysis of the obtained results is made, and having finished the description, the productions of both groups are compared. We pretend, in that way, to check the utility of a strategy which, moreover favors the learning of Latin (essentially increasing the knowledge of vocabulary), it tries to improve the student’s capacity of expression, making them conscious about a basic mechanism of expression such as the description and showing them the practical use in literary texts. As well as to check the efficiency of this
resource when applied to different didactic strategies, from the more extended, the traditional, to more innovative ones such as the Orberg method. elaboration of a description. All the mentioned activities have been tested during the
