Ergometry in judo is carried out through protocols on a treadmill or a cycle ergometer. To make it more similar to the technical gestures of sport, an ergometric protocol remodeling is necessary. An ergometric protocol that simulated defined movements in judo (specific gesture ergometry) was designed to evaluate cardiorespiratory parameters. Eight judokas from the Cuban National Judo Team participated, of both sexes; Ages: 19 - 31 years. Two maximal effort tests were performed (on the treadmill and on a rowing machine with a tight sleeve and lapel). Of the cardiorespiratory parameters recorded, the means that were higher in the specific gesture were: maximum heart rate [178 ± 9,3 vs 179 ± 7,9 (beats/minute), p=0,04]; maximum oxygen consumption [4,3 ± 1,4 vs 4,7 ± 1,1 (L/minute), p=0,01] and relative [51,3 ± 16,8 vs 55,5 ± 14,6 (ml/kg/minute), p=0,01]; metabolic equivalent [14,9 ± 4,7 vs 16,3 ± 3,8 (METS), p=0,02] and myocardial oxygen consumption [45,3 ± 4,7 vs 47,9 ± 4,6 (%), p=0,01]. It was concluded that the specific gesture ergometric test was more effective than the conventional one for judokas.
