Participation in the sport is increasing, which has many advantages for health, unfortunately injuries in young athletes represent a high morbidity and high costs (1). The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta reports that more than half of the 7 million injuries are related to high-level competitive sports and recreational activities that occur annually in children and youth between the ages of 5 and 24. Injury prevention interventions have been successful in preventing the occurrence or decreasing the severity of sports injuries through many mechanisms including the development and implementation of safety rules, protective equipment and changes in sports equipment and environments including physical conditioning programs that optimize the physical capabilities of the athlete (2). In this opportunity it is announced the main types of injuries that occur in taekwondo athletes and will allow athletes and coaches to serve as a guide to improve processes and prevent future injuries.
