Abstract

The significant heterogeneity among regions of the European Union, combined with the varying impacts of economic cycles over time, has led to greater inequality across territories. This situation has directly affected the well-being and quality of life of the population. The aim of this research is to create a ranking based on the results obtained from the Synthetic Indicator of Well-Being and Quality of Life, a multidimensional indicator based on Eurostat data at the regional level. This indicator aims to approximate the concepts of well-being and quality of life for the different regions of the European Union in the years 2000 and 2018. The results show that, in 2018, the Netherlands is the country with the most regions in the top ranks of the index. However, some regions of Serbia, Germany, France, and Spain also appear in the TOP 20. As for the lowest-ranking regions, Romanian, Bulgarian, and Greek regions occupy the most positions. Additionally, some regions in Bulgaria are the only ones that remain among the lowest ranks when comparing the years 2000 and 2018.
