Abstract

Financial literacy promotes informed financial decision-making by individuals and, by extension, contributes to the acquisition of healthy financial behaviours that promote the financial well-being of society. However, up to the present, no generalised measurable indicators have been found to assess levels of financial literacy. The purpose of this research is to analyse and interpret the reviewed academic productions that provide empirical and theoretical data on the measurement of the levels of financial education of the population, providing a synthesis of the studies developed since 1940, which are mainly based on tests and surveys. A simplification of the PRISMA statement linked to the content reviews is carried out, making it possible to examine through its temporal evolution the specific sources in which they appear, the objectives pursued, as well as the findings, conclusions, and recommendations for raising financial knowledge and for maintaining financial habits that enable effective management of the personal economy.
