This work is in response to the arride by Ruiz-Vargas published in this journal (1999, 3:13-19) on whether a converging relationship between experimental psychology and cognitive neurosciences is possible. We postulate that a redefinition of basic concepts of cognitive psychology is needed. The concept of representation and the idea that memory can exist without a phsycial place to develop are discussed. The work concludes that cognitive psychology without a brain makes no sense.
