Abstract

In Being and Nothingness, Sartre develops a notion of negative freedom, which is expressed on a nihilation of the being-in-itself. On the other hand, in Sartre’s Truth and Existence, the dimension of materiality acquires a renovated emphasis, and, as a consequence, freedom is expressed in an affirmative movement of unveiling of the Being. This two senses that the notion of freedom acquires, constitute different manifestations of the same phenomenon, and they are the result of different ways in which Sartre himself articulates the paradoxical notion between freedom and factuality, subjectivity and objectivity.
