Abstract

The lag between the appearance of Homo sapiens and the consolidation of behaviorally modern traits among human populations raises the problem of what is the factor, or factors, that explain this consolidation in a particular moment of our history: the transition between MSA/MP and LSA/UP. This paper examines several of the proposals that have tried to identify the cause of this cultural change, especially those that relate the degree of technological complexity reached by a population with its demographic characteristics.
