ABSTRACT: The anonymous Fábula de Dafne, staged between 1585 and 1593 at the Monasterio de las Descalzas Reales, is the ? rst theatrical approach in Spain to the myth of Apollo and Daphne. This paper comments on relevant aspects of a piece staged at a convent that sets the basis for a hybrid drama, between the mythological and the pastoral, continued by Lope de Vega himself a few years later. The treatment of the myth, the political meaning of the piece, and some aspects related to the staging of this original comedy are also analyzed.
