The British writer Bruce Chatwin (1940-1989) built his novel The Viceroy of Ouidah in order to study the consequences of embracing sedentarism. This article analyses the evolution of the main character in the book, the Brazilian slave trader Dom Felix de Souza, who renounced nomadism.
