About the Journal

Focus and Scope

RAPHISA, journal of Anthropology and Philosophy of the Sacrum is a journal edited by the research groups: HUM 394 of the University of Málaga, and HUM 925 of the University of Seville.  In its printed version it is published by Thémata publishing house in Seville (Spain).

It is a biannual journal of research, reflection and dialogue on culture, anthropology, philosophy and religion in the field of the Three Cultures of the Mediterranean and East Asia, aimed at the exchange between academics. It invites all scholars in these fields to submit original texts for review and publication.

RAPHISA publishes only original and unpublished articles; its official languages are Spanish, Portuguese, French, Italian, German and English and it is structured in six sections - not all of which will be present in all issues: I. STUDIES; II. NOTES; III. BIBLIOGRAPHICAL REVIEWS; IV. REPORTS; V. TRANSLATIONS; VI. CREATION; VII. INTERVIEWS; VIII. OBITUARY.

Peer Review Process

Texts should be sent to the platform of the scientific journals of the University of Malaga, suitably anonymised. Raphisa will only publish texts in Latin alphabet, so texts in other alphabets must be romanised. In the case of Chinese, the pinying system will be used.

RAPHISA only publishes original research articles. Texts submitted to Raphisa undergo a process (CrossRef Similarity Check) to detect plagiarism. Manuscripts will be reviewed by external reviewers who will not know the identity of the author according to the "blind" system, but only for the sections "studies", "notes" and "translations". The suitability for publication of papers submitted to the other sections will be determined by the Board of Directors and/or the Editorial Board. Once a text has been received, the author will be acknowledged and the text will be sent to a specialist for evaluation. Within two months, the Board of Directors will communicate the acceptance or rejection of the article, together with the observations or suggestions made by the evaluator. The date of receipt and the date of approval shall be stated on each published text.

At the meetings held periodically by the journal's board of directors, the composition of the planned issues is discussed, and the inclusion of the evaluated and definitively corrected articles in the corresponding issue is decided.

Authors do not have to pay any fee for the publication of their text in Raphisa.

Publication Frequency

The reception of articles is open all year round. Issues close on September 1st and April 1st.  Issues are published in June and December in order to comply with the indicated periodicity. If in an exceptional case, RAPHISA, delay the publication of the selected articles to a later issue, authors would be informed.

Declaration of good practices

The Management of RAPHISA is committed to the scientific community to guarantee the ethics and quality of the articles published. Our journal has as a reference the Code of Conduct and Good Practice defined by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) for publishers of scientific journals. At the same time, it guarantees an adequate response to the needs of readers and authors, ensuring the quality of what is published, protecting and respecting the content of the articles as well as their integrity. The Board of Directors undertakes to publish corrections, clarifications, retractions and apologies when necessary.

In compliance with these good practices, RAPHISA has, as explained above, a system for selecting articles that are reviewed by external reviewers - anonymous and peer reviewers - with criteria based exclusively on the scientific relevance of the article, originality and clarity of the work presented. RAPHISA guarantees at all times the confidentiality of the evaluation process, the anonymity of the evaluators and authors, the evaluated content, the reasoned report issued by the evaluators and any other communication issued by the referees, editorial and scientific boards if appropriate. Likewise, confidentiality will be maintained in the event of possible clarifications, claims or complaints that an author may wish to send to the journal committees or to the reviewers of the article.

RAPHISA declares its commitment to the respect and integrity of already published works. For this reason, plagiarism is strictly prohibited and texts that are identified as plagiarism or that are fraudulent in content will be removed from the journal if they have already been published or will not be published at all. The journal will act as quickly as possible in such cases. By accepting the terms and agreements expressed by our journal, authors have to guarantee that the article and the materials associated with it are original or do not infringe copyright. Authors also have to justify that, in case of shared authorship, there was a full consensus of all authors concerned and that it has not been previously submitted or published elsewhere.

Likewise, RAPHISA states that names, e-mail addresses and personal data entered in this journal will be used exclusively for the purposes stated by this journal and will not be made available to any other purpose or person.
