Ecuador: a country challenged by its women writers
Keywords:
Ecuador, literature, Hispanoamerica, gender, politicsAbstract
Ecuador occupies a very prominent place in contemporary literary production written by women. A large group of women authors with solid academic and professional backgrounds, many of them trained abroad, are publishing and receiving unanimous applause from international critics. Their books has been translated into other languages, and they are usually claimed at international events. So, this article proposes a panoramic vision of the most outstanding protagonists of this creative explosion and their works, which go beyond possible labels and aesthetic and territorial limits. Likewise, it claims its role in the construction of the collective future of the country, in an environment of permanent economic crisis and difficulty in overcoming the classic gender stereotypes in public life and political debate.
