In this article we discuss the essential traits of the philosophical career of Adolfo Sanchez Vazquez (1915-2011), Spanish-born thinker exiled in Mexico after the Spanish Civil War. We start with a rough sketch of his successive contacts with philosophy throughout his life: from his first philosophical readings in his youth until his appointment as full-time professor of philosophy at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM). Next, the essentials of his Marxist conception of philosophy, aesthetics and politics are analyzed.
