Abstract

When Bernardo de Gálvez was very young, he fought in the apache northern border of Mexico and wrote a «News» about that experience. After being governor of Louisiana, he knew how French and British dealt with non subject Indians. When he was viceroy of Mexico, drafted an «Instruction» for a new commandant of the frontier, he proposed to follow that exemple, abandoning the traditional Spanish policy toward Indians.
