Abstract

Entrapment of bathers in swimming pools facilities is one of the types of injurious incidents recognized worldwide for their tragic implications. A study of the sanitary legislation of swimming pools with setting in the Spanish population was carried out. The objective was to examine the normative parameters foreseen in the codes of swimming pools for the approach of the entrapment hazard. None of the Autonomous Communities establishes safety measures against the five recognized entrapment modalities, avoiding mechanical type, limbs and hair. We found nine codes over 15 years old. A highlight lack of technical specifications on measures to comply with regulatory requirements was identified. The pool codes analyzed show a great regulatory disparity in their strategies for protecting physical integrity of the bathers, with inequal preventive measures and a questionable level of trust.
